61850ug Europe Spring 2026 - TBD

About this event

The UCA International Users Group invites members of the global energy community to attend the 61850 Users Group – Europe 2026 Spring Meeting, taking place in Spring 2026 in Europe (exact location and dates to be announced).

This meeting will bring together utilities, vendors, academics, and industry stakeholders to explore the latest developments, implementation experiences, and best practices for IEC 61850, the international standard for communication networks and systems in substations and beyond.

The 61850 Users Group is actively seeking a host organization for this event. Utilities, universities, or testing laboratories interested in co-hosting or sponsoring are invited to express interest. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase leadership in digital substations, Smart Grid interoperability, and standards-based innovation. Please contact Herb@ucaiug.org

Whether you are just beginning your IEC 61850 journey or are deep into deployment, this meeting will offer insights, education, and connection with leading experts and peers.

What Is IEC 61850?

IEC 61850 is an international standard defining communication protocols for intelligent electronic devices at electrical substations. It supports interoperability, real-time performance, and flexible system integration for modern utility environments.

The standard extends beyond substations to support automation of distributed energy resources (DER), hydro and wind plants, and other grid-edge systems, making it a cornerstone of Smart Grid architecture.

The 61850 Users Group (61850ug) was created to accelerate adoption, foster implementation best practices, and create a collaborative forum where real-world challenges and solutions can be discussed. Meetings include pre-conference tutorials, technical presentations, vendor exhibits, and numerous networking opportunities.

Who Should Attend

This event is designed for utilities, system integrators, equipment vendors, researchers, engineers, consultants, and testing labs involved in IEC 61850-related projects and system implementations.

Attendees will gain valuable insights into practical deployment, system integration, configuration, testing, cybersecurity, and the evolving role of IEC 61850 in enabling interoperable and future-ready power systems.

The meeting is open to all interested participants – UCAIug membership is not required to attend.
