What Is CIM?
The Common Information Model (CIM) is an international standard used for modeling the information exchanges required in electric utilities. It provides a common language and structure for data sharing, independent of any specific application, middleware, or communication protocol.
The interoperability enabled by CIM is essential for Smart Grid development, enabling greater flexibility, automation, and efficiency in managing today’s complex energy systems.
The CIM Users Group (CIMug) promotes CIM adoption and collaboration across the industry. Meetings are held twice annually—one in North America and one internationally—and offer presentations, tutorials, vendor demonstrations, and networking opportunities with CIM experts and peers.
Who Should Attend
This meeting is designed for utilities, RTOs/ISOs, software vendors, consultants, and research institutions working on data integration, enterprise information architectures, and Smart Grid modernization initiatives.
It is particularly relevant to:
Project managers and system architects
Business and IT managers
Engineers and integration specialists
Control center personnel and planners
The event is open to all interested participants – you do not need to be a CIMug member to attend. Attendees will walk away with actionable knowledge, new contacts, and a stronger understanding of CIM’s role in utility transformation.
