A Joint CIM/OpenSG/61850/Testing User Group Meeting:
Advancing Interoperability for the Utility Enterprise and Systems
November 15-18, 2011>> Austin, Texas USA
Introduction
This year the UCAIug communities, CIM, OpenSG, IEC 61850 and the newly formed Testing user groups are meeting together this November in Austin, Texas.
CIM Overview: CIM is an international standard globally accepted for modeling the information exchanges required in electric utility industry. The interoperability enabled by the CIM standards is a key factor for achieving the Smart Grid vision.
OpenSG Overview: The OpenSG User Group (OSGug) was formed to create a forum for the development of requirements for SmartGrid systems. The work focus has been defined by the pragmatic needs of the Utility and Vendor communities. Through these forums leading experts share their insights, create technical content, and resolve key technical issues.
IEC 61850 Overview: Many parts of IEC 61850 have been published as the second Edition and IEC 61850 is organized as one of the key elements for Smarter Grids. A large range of products supporting IEC 61850 is now available and in many projects, reduction of engineering work and vendor independent system integration is considered as one of the driver to introduce IEC 61850.
Testing Overview: Conformance and Interoperability testing is an important component in acheiving acceptance of the standards being promoted by the 3 UCA User Groups. The testing must incorporate consensus-based documents vetted by industry stakeholders. This group maintains common documents across the 3 groups as well as provides the coordination between the groups as they focus on their unique testing environments.
