Grid to Great is a pioneer in substation digitalization, building on more than 40 years of innovation that began with Locamation in Enschede, the Netherlands in 1983. We help utilities, system integrators, and industrial operators make their grids more flexible, efficient, and resilient – the foundation of an accelerating energy transition. Our IEC 61850-compliant and certified Process Interface Units digitize voltage and current data at the source. The compact, DIN-rail Voltage SAMU and Current SAMU (Stand-Alone Merging Units) are 60% smaller than conventional designs, plug-and-play over two fibre-optic cables and combine protection and power quality in a single device. Alongside our virtualization software – including the virtual Merging Unit (vMU), vPMU (2026), and vPQ (2027) – we enable centralization of devices and software-defined substations across greenfield and brownfield, MV to HV, AIS and GIS, for utilities, industry, data centers, and onshore & offshore DER. Our newest development, CableBooster, applies Time Domain Reflectometry in a novel way: deriving real-time cable temperature to enable Dynamic Line Rating of underground cables. This unlocks additional headroom in existing infrastructure, helping operators absorb renewable feed-in without costly civil works.
