CIMug Meeting
A users group meeting presented by the CIM Users Group
St. Louis, Missouri, United States
22 – 24 September 2026
Meeting Theme: “From CIM Models to Grid Ops: Bridging the T&D Planning‑Operations Gap via NMM”
About This Event
The CIM Users Group meeting is a multi‑day, in‑person event bringing together utilities, TSOs/DSOs, vendors, and integrators to share practical experience using the IEC Common Information Model (CIM) for grid and enterprise data integration. Attendees hear directly from peers about CIM across network modeling, CGMES and other profiles, planning and operations exchanges, market and DER processes, data governance, and enterprise architecture—what is working, what is evolving, and what to anticipate next.
Sessions are technical and applied. Speakers present real implementations, modeling and profiling approaches, integration patterns, common pitfalls, and proven practices—creating a focused forum to compare strategies, ask detailed questions, and learn from organizations that design, operate, and maintain CIM‑based solutions at scale.
For utilities, system operators, vendors, system integrators, labs, consultants, and researchers, the meeting provides a high‑value environment to build shared understanding of CIM, align multi‑stakeholder expectations, and leave with actionable insights that improve model quality, interoperability, and project outcomes across the grid data lifecycle.

FAQ
The Common Information Model (CIM) is a set of IEC standards (e.g., IEC 61970/61968/62325) that define a common semantic model for representing and exchanging power system data across enterprise and operational systems.
What is a CIM Users Group meeting?
A technical forum where utilities, vendors, and experts share real-world CIM implementations, focusing on integration use cases, data models, and practical lessons learned.
Why this meeting matters
CIM initiatives span multiple systems (EMS, DMS, GIS, DERMS, markets). Learning from peers helps reduce integration complexity, improve data consistency, and accelerate interoperability across the enterprise.
What topics are typically covered?
For CIM Users Group meetings, topics generally span CIM fundamentals, profiles and tooling, utility case studies, enterprise and grid model integration, governance and data management practices, and forward-looking applications and innovations in applying CIM.
Is this an interoperability testing event?
No. This is a presentation and discussion forum—not a formal interoperability test or plugfest.
How is the meeting structured?
Expert presentations, utility case studies, and interactive discussions focused on practical implementation and integration challenges.
Who should attend?
Utilities, system operators, vendors, integrators, consultants, and architects working with enterprise data integration, grid models, or CIM-based exchanges.
Value for attendees
Gain insight into real deployments, understand integration patterns, avoid common modeling pitfalls, and take back actionable strategies for CIM adoption.
Recommended background
Basic familiarity with CIM concepts, such as classes, attributes, profiles, and common exchange formats (e.g., RDF/XML, JSON).
CIM University option
Thea CIM University provides a fast introduction to CIM fundamentals, profiles, and practical usage to help maximize meeting value.
Attendance expectations
Capacity may be limited—early registration is recommended to ensure participation and support planning.
What to bring
A laptop for notes, your integration challenges, and (optional) non-confidential CIM use cases or models for discussion.
What you’ll leave with
A clearer understanding of CIM-based integration strategies, governance practices, and real-world approaches to managing grid and enterprise data.
